Dr. Ashton Richards has immense training in head and neck anatomy has spent the past six years developing her skill in cosmetic dentistry to improve the way your smile looks which goes hand in hand with facial esthetics. Facial esthetics goes beyond the fine lines and wrinkles and extends into the features of the lip and smile.

Botoxis a biocompatible chemical agent widely used for therapeutic and cosmetic procedures. It is a muscle relaxant that is introduced into the skin through an injection. While botox is used in medicine to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles on the skin, dentists use botox to treat oral conditions such as TMJ disorder, headaches, malocclusion, Bruxism, muscle stiffness, etc.

How does Botox work?

Botox is primarily a muscle relaxant. When injected into the skin, the molecules of the chemical attach themselves to the nerve endings and prevent the sensory signals from being transmitted. This reduces muscle contractions, and their stiffness will be reduced. However, the effect of the drug will wear off gradually, and the muscle stiffness will resume after a few months. Patients will require maintenance appointments to sustain the results from Botox.

Dermal Filler is a Hyaluronic Acid gel-like material used for cosmetic procedures dealing with a loss of volume. Where Botox is used to relax muscles, Dermal Fillers are used to filling in deep folds, frame structures of the face, and add volume to the lips.

How does Filler work?

Dermal fillers used by Dr. Ashton Richards are compromised of Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid is found naturally within the body. As we age, skin thins, Hyaluronic Acid found within the body reduces, creating sunken or sagging faces, lines, wrinkles and folds in the skin, and thin lips. When Hyaluronic Acid Filler is injected, facial structures will rejuvenate lost volume that occurs with age. Like Botox, Dermal Fillers require maintenance appointments to sustain the results.
